Sabin came to Kent State
from Debi and Rick’s School of Gymnastics in Pittsburgh, where she served as the
head coach. Prior to that position, she served as the assistant coach at the
University of Illinois for two years. She spent a year as a personal trainer and
aerobic instructor while volunteering as an assistant coach at the University of
Oklahoma. She also was a gymnastics coach and public relations assistant for the
Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy in Norman, Okla. She had a three-year
stint as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky, her alma mater, from
1994-1997, where she was in charge of coaching, meet management and recruiting.
While at Kentucky, she helped mentor Jenny Hansen, who was the NCAA all-around
champion for three consecutive seasons. In 1997, Sabin received
her master’s degree in health promotion from Kentucky, where she was a varsity
gymnast from 1989-94. She is married to Ray Sabin, who is a fomer Kent State
wrestler. They have twin daughters, Molly Patricia and Olivia Hudd, who were

In her fifth season as
the assistant coach at Kent State, Sharon Sabin brings ten years of
coaching experience from the Big 10, Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference to
the Golden Flashes.
Assistant Coach and Camp Director Thomas Ward
Prior to joining the Golden Flashes’ staff, Coach Ward spent 16 years coaching in the USA Gymnastics club circuit. He owned and directed Bayside Gymnastics for nine years in Clearwater, Florida. During his coaching tenure, Tom has developed dozens of state and regional champions as well as producing over 15 Level 10 National Championship qualifiers. Under his direction, Tom has assisted many of his athletes to receive full athletic scholarships to numerous NCAA Division I colleges and universities.
