Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center

The Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center on the Kent State campus has long been a bustling hub for intercollegiate athletics. Built in 1952 in honor of the brave Kent State students and alumni that fought in World War II, the MAC Center hosts Golden Flashes basketball, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling events as well as convocation and select entertainment events.

In 1992, the facility underwent a major facelift, including a name change from the old Memorial Gymnasium to the MAC Center. Along with interior renovations including team rooms, galleries, trophy rooms and an improved fan experience, the exterior of the MAC Center features an inviting façade to welcome Kent State students, alumni and fans.

Among the additions inside the MAC Center is the Blue and Gold Club Loge, which provides a panoramic view of the competition court from the third floor of the building. In 2006, another set of renovations swept through the MAC Center bringing a new parquet floor and a pair of video sideboards for replays and graphics.

Volleyball begins the academic year with its fall season from August to November at the MAC Center. The building bustles with excitement as the season progresses, with men’s and women’s basketball along with gymnastics and wrestling competing in the winter.

All five teams have found measured success in the confines of the MAC Center, making it a formidable place to play for foes.

Directions to the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center

Directions From the North:

I-71 or I-77 or I-271 to I-480 East:

  • I-480 becomes St. Rt.14.
  • Stay on St. Rt. 14 into Streetsboro (Interstate Map).
  • Take St. Rt. 43 south from Streetsboro to Kent (5 miles).
  • Stay on Rt. 43 to St. Rt. 59 (Haymaker Parkway).
  •   Turn left onto St. Rt. 59.
  • At next traffic light turn right onto South Water Street (still St. Rt. 43).
  • Turn left at first traffic light onto Summit Street.
  • Stay on Summit Street.
  • At 5th traffic light turn left onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

Directions From the South:

I-71 / I-77 to I-76 East (Interstate Map) to St. Rt. 43 North (Exit 33):

  • Stay on St. Rt. 43 to St. Rt. 261 (less than 2 miles).
  • Turn right onto St. Rt. 261.
  • Turn left onto Campus Center Drive.
  • At stop sign turn left onto Campus Center Drive West.
  • Proceed to next traffic light.
  • Go straight onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

Directions From the East:

Ohio Turnpike to Exit 187

  • Take St. Rt. 14 to Streetsboro (Interstate Map).
  • Take St. Rt. 43 south to Kent (5 miles).
  • Stay on Rt. 43 to St. Rt. 59 (Haymaker Parkway).
  • Turn left onto St. Rt. 59.
  • At next traffic light turn right onto South Water Street (still St. Rt. 43).
  • Turn left at first traffic light onto Summit Street.
  • Stay on Summit Street.
  • At 5th traffic light turn left onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

State Rt. 59 to State Rt. 261:

  • Turn left onto St. Rt. 261.
  • Go about 1 mile to the traffic light at Summit Road.
  • Turn right onto Summit Road.
  • At 3rd traffic light turn right onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

I-76 to State Rt. 43 North (Exit 33):

  • Stay on St. Rt. 43 to St. Rt. 261 (less than 2 miles).
  • Turn right onto St. Rt.261.
  • Turn left onto Campus Center Drive.
  • At first stop sign turn left onto Campus Center Drive West.
  • Proceed to next traffic light.
  • Go straight onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

Directions From the West:

I-76 to State Rt. 43 North (Exit 33):

  • Stay on St. Rt. 43 to St. Rt. 261 (less than 2 miles).
  • Turn right onto St. Rt. 261.
  • Turn left onto Campus Center Drive.
  • At first stop sign turn left onto Campus Center Drive West.
  • Proceed to next traffic light.
  • Go straight on Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

Ohio Turnpike to Exit 187:

State Rt. 59 to State Rt. 43 South:

  • Turn right onto St. Rt. 43.
  • Turn left at first traffic light onto Summit Street.
  • Stay on Summit Street.
  • At 5th traffic light turn left onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.

State Rt. 261:

  • Take St. Rt. 261 to Campus Center Drive (1/4 mile past St. Rt. 43).
  • Turn left onto Campus Center Drive.
  • At stop sign turn left onto Campus Center Drive West.
  • At traffic light go straight onto Risman Drive.
  • Risman Drive curves to the left in front of the Student Center.
  • The MAC Center is the second building on the right.
